There are many practical reasons for installing laminate flooring in your home though most people do not know it. They are simply following a popular trend in the country that started fifteen years ago and seems to be gaining speed every year.
I get a lot of people coming into my Santa Rosa flooring store asking me about the benefits of going with laminate floors over hardwood. There are several of them. Lets go over some of the most popular.
Cheaper Than Hardwood
Laminate can be half the cost of traditional hardwood floors. While oak hardwood can cost $12 a square foot you can find some decent laminate flooring for $5-7 a square foot. If a person really wanted to save money he could even find laminates cheaper than that though they would definitely look fake.
Many people want to remodel their homes but are on a tight budget. If you do not have $10-$15,000 to through down on some cherry oak then laminate is the next best option. There are some quality brands that look exactly like the real thing and visitors will only know its not real if you tell them.
Does Not Scratch Easy
If you have children or pets then laminate will definitely be more advisable than hardwood.
Hardwood looks fabulous when it is first installed but it scratches easily. Dog and cat claws can make beautiful hardwood floors look ancient in several months. The movement of furniture and rocks in people’s shoes will take its toll as well. A laminate floor does not scratch easily at all, especially the lighter tan colors.
Simple to Install
The installation process of laminate flooring is really easy. Its half the work and half the expense. There are some brands, like Pergo, that makes their pieces extremely easy to put in your house. You click them in as you would a puzzle. All you have to do is wet the dry glue underneath and then put the square pieces into place. Even people who have had no home improvement experience have been able to install laminated floors.
Easy to Clean
My Santa Rosa store sells 10x as much carpet than it does hardwood or laminate flooring. I personally love carpet myself. But, having said that laminate is the easiest to clean out of all the three. All it takes is a mop, soap, and hot water. You can even vacuum it if you like. Just do not use a heavy vacuums with plastic wheels or roller brushes.
When people come into my flooring Santa Rosa store this by far is one of the easiest sell I or my salesman have to make. It make a lot of sense for people with kids, pets, or a lot of foot traffic. These floors will last a long time with very little maintenance. It something many homeowners should definitely think about and give careful consideration to.
